There is nothing to glamorize about using a gun. It is a serious business and always should be considered so. The world is becoming a much more dangerous place, especially with unemployment over 15% here in S. California where I live. The police now come to every home, where a silent alarm has been set off with a garage door, or not getting out of the house quick enough after setting the alarm, with guns drawn because there are so many home invasions and people are beaten, beaten to death, or killed. It could be your life you are protecting. What if you had no defense between killers and your family? The understanding for many has probably come in the last moments of their life, wishing they had protection.

Killing anything is dramatic. It is not like the movies. We need to remind ourselves of that as we send off our youth to fight, die and become wounded or crippled. We must remember our soldiers and their families, not only while in the service, but when they are home and needing a helping hand.

Sorry you had to do that. But, completely justified. I hope your dog is ok.
I own four dogs and a cat(Two Labs, a Golden Retriever, and a Pug). My dogs are good watch dogs, not attack dogs. I own four acres, all fenced in, so mine don't roam and none are invited in.
There are five or six breeds of dogs that I will not own, and the poor thing pictured above heads the list. Some breed of dogs were bred and still are to be very aggressive and at the slightest provocation from animal or a child sends them into attack mode.
I would do the same, but probably when I first notice the pit bull on my property. Take no chances, here.
